About the role

As a Patent Engineer at reMarkable, you will be instrumental in overseeing and expanding our intellectual property portfolio, ensuring the protection of our innovative hardware and software solutions. This important role involves close collaboration with our R&D and Legal teams to identify and protect new inventions, manage patent applications, and maintain a comprehensive IP management system. As a Patent Engineer, you'll not only help manage our patent portfolio but also actively contribute to our strategic initiatives. Your work ensures that our innovative solutions are protected, enabling reMarkable to continue leading the way to help people think better through technology.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate with technical teams to identify patentable inventions and assist in the preparation of detailed patent applications.

  • Coordinate with external patent attorneys to ensure accurate and timely filing of patent documents.

  • Advise on patent strategy and help to implement this across the company, ensuring alignment with our business goals and technological roadmap.

  • Manage and update a patent portfolio, including handling all administrative aspects, deadlines, and correspondence related to our patents globally.

  • Provide support for patent education and awareness within the company to enhance understanding and compliance with patent/IP processes and strategies.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics).

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of patent engineering work or a related field.

  • Legal and IP Competency: Strong understanding of intellectual property law and practices, particularly in patenting.

  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to independently solve issues and take initiative as a proven "doer" in hectic environments.

  • Administrative Skills: Proficient in handling administrative tasks and responsibilities efficiently, ensuring smooth operations within the patent management process.

In addition it is beneficial to have:

  • Advanced Degrees: Master’s degree or higher in STEM; a legal degree is a plus.

  • Strategic and Managerial Competency: experience advising on IP Strategy

  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of financial management and cost control in relation to IP.

  • Industry Experience: Prior experience in a consumer electronics environment or a similar tech-focused industry.

  • U.S. Patent Practice Experience: Familiarity with U.S. patent laws and procedures is advantageous
